Definitions and Advantages
Web 2.0 Add to cart button (V1 and V2)
The add to cart button will update a minicart element in the theme instead of jumping to the cart page. This leaves the customer on the product page which may direct them to further sales by clicking on some accessories or related items.
Version 2 of the Add to cart button will open the cart panel, saving you precious room in your theme for more pertinent/valuable information.
Keyword libary
In the search form, once two letters are entered the user will autocomplete some search words they can select from. This will reduce the potential for typos resulting in 0 results and make your customers shopping experience a little easier.
Content reveal
Allow content to be revealed only when a link is clicked or a mouse rolls over a hot spot. This saves you space on the page but still allows you to provide a plethora of information without redirecting the user.
In the cases of product lists, the content that is revealed is loaded dynamically (instead of preloading) so that the load time of the initial page is not effected.
Recent Searches
Display a list of recently completed searches that your customer has performed. This makes it easier for them to get back to result sets without using 'back' or conducting another search.
The results can also be loaded into a panel within the page they're on, so they aren't constantly getting moved around.
Advanced product list
This allows the ajax add to cart technology to be used in conjunction with a product list so that your customer can add multiple products to the cart at the same time, without being redirected to the cart page.
The implementation of custom ajax requires that you are a member of the and that you have some existing custom work. A custom theme and product layout are required for any of the packages. It is also required that you sign a future technology disclaimer statement, which can be read .
For the packages 2 and up, it is recommended that you have a custom homepage, category and search results layout as well.
The ajax technologies are not implemented into any custom work that does not appear on the store front, such as auction, email or newsletter templates.
www.zproshop.com has working examples of all the technology in the Level 2 (evolution) package.
proshop.zoovy.com has working examples of all the technology in the Level 1 (shoptastic) package.
Add to cart (V1)
click the 'add to cart' button on this page. Notice how you are not moved to the cart page? Ajax is used to dynamically update the cart so the user isn't moved away from the content of this page. Makes it easier for them to get to accessories, related items, to go back to the category, or to add multiple variations if options are available.
Add to cart (V2)
and click the 'add to cart' button. The small cart is updated to reflect the new amounts and the panel is opened to show details of what is in the cart, including this latest item added. This saves a lot of valuable real estate for more important things... like product!
Content Reveal
There are several instances of this in bluelicious and in evolution. You can click the tell a friend or reviews links on this page to see some examples. The content of the form is displayed without a pop-up. Click here and do a search. Notice that the results don't move you to another page?
Recent Searches
and do a search. Don't click on one of the results, just do a few more searches. See how the 'recent searches' updates automatically? Click one of the recent searches and the results are again displayed in the panel, instead of taking you to another page. Handy.
Advanced Product List
Click here and open the accessories tab. Scroll over the name of an item. See how the information loads in a panel, letting you preview everything about the accessory without leaving the product page. Now imagine this on a category page with an add to cart button in the mix.
